Experienced tour guides will lead small groups on routes of varying length through the restored prairies, savannas and woodlands of Holy Wisdom Monastery. Kids on the Prairie

Kids On the Prairie explorations are for children and their adult family members. They are open to members of Holy Wisdom communities and the public. Volunteers from Sunday Assembly and Friends of Wisdom Prairie provide support for each session. On April 2, we will look for signs of emergent plants, animals and insects. Depending on the weather, we may find nectar sources for emerging bumble bees. We'll look for food sources available to other over-wintering creatures. Field Trip to Abraham’s Woods

Naturalist Sylvia Marek leads an off-site field trip to view the spring ephemerals at Abraham's Woods. This property, located between New Glarus and Monroe in Green County, contains exceptional examples of southern hardwood forests. Participants can expect a gentle hike to admire the spring beauty. People are invited to carpool to the site (Holy Wisdom is not providing transportation), and there will be an optional lunch stop on the way home at the cheese factories in Monroe, WI. Creating Rain Gardens

This workshop will cover benefits, considerations and design strategies related to rain gardens. The morning session will involve an indoor presentation with Q&A designed to give participants the knowledge and resources needed to install down spout or rain gardens of their own. After lunch, we will roll up our sleeves and get some hands-on experience, working together on a rain garden install on the Monastery grounds. The afternoon portion is optional and space is limited. Honoring Indigenous Effigy Mounds

Nitschke Mound W5934 County Rd E, Burnett, WI, United States

Join us on June 15th for our field trip, Honoring Indigenous Effigy Mounds. This exploration will feature a guided tour of Nitschke Mounds Park, a 54-acre park in Dodge County containing 37 identified effigy mounds. The mounds in this park represent one of the best surviving examples of the Mound Builders culture in Wisconsin and were built between 800-1200 AD. The keynote speaker for the event is Chloris Lowe Jr., twice past president of the Ho-Chunk Nation.
