Join us on June 15th for our field trip, Honoring Indigenous Effigy Mounds.
This exploration will feature a guided tour of Nitschke Mounds Park, a 54-acre park in Dodge County containing 37 identified effigy mounds. The mounds in this park represent one of the best surviving examples of the Mound Builders culture in Wisconsin and were built between 800-1200 AD. The keynote speaker for the event is Chloris Lowe Jr., twice past president of the Ho-Chunk Nation.
This is an off-site field trip. Participants will provide their own transportation to the park and carpooling from Holy Wisdom Monastery is encouraged. Please bring your own lunch.
Chloris Lowe Jr., Terrill Knaack, Gary Maier, Kurt Sampson and Kristin White Eagle will discuss the cultural and ecological story of the mound group.
