Wrens of Wisdom Prairie The Great Wisconsin Birdathon is Wisconsin’s largest fundraiser for bird conservation. Each year bird enthusiasts from across the state form teams with the goal of finding as many unique bird species as possible within a 24-hour period while raising important funds for bird conservation. Kids on the Prairie

Learn about caring for the earth Children, parents, grandparents and friends are invited to Kids On the Prairie on Sunday, June 27. This month's theme is exploring Wisdom Prairie. Using magnifiers and a little patience, we will investigate flowers and the insects that live on them. Sunday Assembly member, Rita Emmenegger, will help us look for monarch eggs on common milkweed. Hopefully we will see some monarchs. This month's prairie exploration will be followed by a short walk to look for bluebirds that have recently fledged. Wildflower Workshop and Walk

Curious about the blooming wildflowers on Wisdom Prairie? Want to learn their names? UW-Madison Arboretum naturalist Sylvia Marek and Julie Melton are holding a wildflower workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021 between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. Stop at the monastery parking lot kiosk to see examples of the many flowers in bloom. Learn how to identify the plants and some of the insects that live with them. Self-guided tour

Self-guided tour: late summer flowers, butterflies and bugs Wednesday, September 8, 10am-noon Fall prairie flowers are putting on quite a show at Holy Wisdom. Sylvia Marek and Julie Melton will have a display set up at the parking lot kiosk. They'll help you identify pollinators and predators as well as the plants that attract them. Hear about insect life cycles. Listen to their voices. Then, take a leisurely self-guided butterfly and bug walk to see how many different species you can find on your own. No need to register, just stop by.

Conserving and restoring grassland and savanna ecosystems in an era of global change

Grassland and savanna ecosystems contain lots of biodiversity, but have been lost and degraded at high rates and face new threats due to climate change. This presentation will cover information from long-term observational and experimental studies to document the drivers of change and how restoration and conservation practices can protect these habitats into the future.
