Awakening to Unconditional Wisdom and Compassion

Lama John Makransky, who led the Benedictine retreat at Holy Wisdom in 2016 with Paul Knitter and Sister Lynne Smith, OSB, is coming back to Madison to teach a 5-day silent retreat. Lama John will be joined by one of his teaching partners, Dr. Paul Condon, a Buddhist practitioner and social psychologist who draws on psychology to help people deepen their meditation experience.

Spiritual Growth Opportunities Including the Oblate Community In addition to Sunday liturgies, spiritual life is nourished through experiences such as daily Liturgy of the Hours, Centering Prayer, retreats, classes and workshops. The Oblates of Holy Wisdom Monastery, totaling nearly 150 members, form an ecumenical learning community of people who are diverse in backgrounds, ages and faith traditions. The Oblates find guidance in the Rule of Benedict and help one another to integrate Benedictine spirituality into their lives. Come learn about the vibrant Oblate community.

Forest Therapy and Forest Bathing

Forest bathing (shinrin-yoku) is the practice of “bathing” in the atmosphere of the forest, absorbing health benefits from nature and entering into a deep communion with the environment. We will adapt this practice for a slow-paced hour-long walk and exploration at Holy Wisdom Monastery. Please wear walking shoes and dress for being outdoors. Leader Marian Farrior is the Restoration Outreach Coordinator at UW-Madison Arboretum, where she also co-leads the WI Master Naturalist training.
