The program will focus on Indigenous Arts and Sciences, a statewide collaboration between five Wisconsin tribes and the University of Wisconsin that aims to combine science with indigenous knowledge and culture. Join the Friends of Wisdom Prairie for this virtual lecture This talk will explore how we can celebrate the patterns and processes of wild landscapes, and mimic them in the context of intentionally-designed gardens and landscapes. We will see examples of landscapes that Darrel has designed, drawing on inspiration from naturally-evolving landscapes. These will include the Native Plant Garden at the UW-Madison Arboretum, as well as the Native Flora Garden in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and The Old Stone Mill site in the New York Botanical Garden, among others. Earth Week Walk for Kids This Sunday after Sunday Assembly, we invite children and their parents or grandparents to celebrate Earth Week with a walk on the monastery grounds. Kids On the Prairie walks are a chance for kids ages 5 to 15 to explore parts of the monastery grounds with a naturalist. Children 3-4 are also welcome with parent support. Wrens of Wisdom Prairie The Great Wisconsin Birdathon is Wisconsin’s largest fundraiser for bird conservation. Each year bird enthusiasts from across the state form teams with the goal of finding as many unique bird species as possible within a 24-hour period while raising important funds for bird conservation. Kids on the Prairie

Learn about caring for the earth Children, parents, grandparents and friends are invited to Kids On the Prairie on Sunday, June 27. This month's theme is exploring Wisdom Prairie. Using magnifiers and a little patience, we will investigate flowers and the insects that live on them. Sunday Assembly member, Rita Emmenegger, will help us look for monarch eggs on common milkweed. UW-Madison Arboretum naturalist Sylvia Marek and Julie Melton are holding a wildflower workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021 between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. Self-guided tour: late summer flowers, butterflies and bugs Wednesday, September 8, 10am-noon Fall prairie flowers are putting on quite a show at Holy Wisdom. Sylvia Marek and Julie Melton will have a display set up at the parking lot kiosk. They'll help you identify pollinators and predators as well as the plants that attract them. Hear about insect life cycles. Listen to their voices. Then, take a leisurely self-guided butterfly and bug walk to see how many different species you can find on your own. No need to register, just stop by.
