Come thank Ron for all his hard work in prairies all over Dane County!

Madagascar and Cape Province of South Africa
with Randy Hoffman

Lemurs and Baobab trees are just two of the amazing beings that inhabit the Island of Madagascar. This island split off from the Indian peninsula over 80 million years ago and through tectonic plate movements drifted in isolation to its current location just east of southern Africa in the Indian Ocean. The plants and animals of this region evolved in relative isolation and over 90% of the wildlife is found nowhere else.

The Cape Floristic Province at the very southern tip of South Africa with its Fynbos shrub land is one of the most diverse biological regions of the world with a high percentage of endemics. Over millions of years of expansion and contraction of the Sahara desert, the cape has become a refuge for this extraordinary flora.

Enjoy hearing naturalist Randy Hoffman tell the story and show pictures of his experiences in these amazing places on our planet.

The dinner lecture will be preceded by the Friends of Wisdom Prairie Annual Meeting where members of the Friends of Wisdom Prairie Council are elected. This year we have an exciting addition, Friends of Wisdom Prairie Council member Ron Endres will receive the Conservationist of the Year Award from Gathering Waters Conservancy.
