Meeting individually and in small groups has helped as a resource to not only guard against clergy isolation, but in a positive sense, has an energizing effect – not only to me, but also to individual colleagues and in group. My cohort colleagues are not merely clergy peers, but are my friends. This friendship is mutual, life-giving, supportive, and spiritually renewing. In a practical sense, it helps me to remember I am part of a team of fellow ministers in the Body of Christ. The fact we come from different traditions also is a strength. We find encouragement in shared hopes and struggles. It helps me to get beyond spiritual tunnel vision, and to look at Christian service, in a broader, more holistic vantage point. -Episcopal Priest from IL
This cohort has helped me step into courage and be ready for this calling of ‘care of souls’ as so many are hurting. People are frightened and looking for support in their fear and pain. Siting with them in that, bringing love and joy into their lives with simple presence, is a true honor and joy. – PCUSA Pastor from IL
After fifty-five years of living, I realize my whole life is spiritual! I can no longer lead people and communities in spiritual practice unless I am grounded in spiritual practice. Something has awakened me to tend more fully to the presence of God. – ELCA Pastor from MN
In the midst of rapid change and diminishing resources, clergy are in need of renewal more than ever. Your gift gives clergy fertile ground to root deeply into God’s love, grow in community, and scatter seeds of hope for a flourishing world.

“The difference in my spiritual life from when I initially applied to ECCSR to today is marked. After the immersion experience, I have a deeper level of groundedness, a sense of renewal, and practices that I can integrate as tools in my ongoing journey of ministry. I already feel a shift in my head and my heart for my ministry setting – inspiration and peace fill me.”
–ELCA pastor“I had time this week to pause, reset, and remember who I am, whose I am as God’s beloved, and why I am called to ministry. I needed this retreat! I was so empty, so depleted in every way. I can now see how a contemplative approach will bear fruit in my ministry, in my parenting, in my marriage. I feel I can step back into life as a renewed and refreshed person.”
