Are you looking for a meaningful summer experience that connects your faith with care for the earth? Be a Summer Steward at Holy Wisdom Monastery for 7 days in July. The program includes prairie and oak savanna restoration, vegetable gardening, reading and discussion around eco-spirituality and the Rule of Benedict, practicing contemplative prayer, and sharing your life story with others – all this while living in community on the monastery grounds. Curious about the blooming wildflowers on Wisdom Prairie? Want to learn their names? UW-Madison Arboretum naturalist Sylvia Marek and Julie Melton are holding a wildflower workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021 between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. Stop at the monastery parking lot kiosk to see examples of the many flowers in bloom. Learn how to identify the plants and some of the insects that live with them. Then walk the prairie trails with one of our colorful prairie wildflower brochures as a guide. All ages and abilities are welcome. Self-guided tour: late summer flowers, butterflies and bugs Wednesday, September 8, 10am-noon Fall prairie flowers are putting on quite a show at Holy Wisdom. Sylvia Marek and Julie Melton will have a display set up at the parking lot kiosk. They'll help you identify pollinators and predators as well as the plants that attract them. Hear about insect life cycles. Listen to their voices. Then, take a leisurely self-guided butterfly and bug walk to see how many different species you can find on your own. No need to register, just stop by.

This course is full In this six-session course, participants will explore two questions: What is at the heart of Christianity that binds us together and what does it mean to be a Christian in today's culture? Using Marcus Borg's book, THE HEART OF CHRISTIANITY, we will seek to see the Christian tradition afresh by engaging such topics as faith, the bible, God, and Jesus with new eyes.
