Experienced volunteer educators and guides will facilitate a short hike to learn about nature and explore the grounds and trails. This free event is open to members of Holy Wisdom communities and the general public. April 14 – Signs of Spring We will look for signs of emergent plants, animals and insects.     Be the first to tilt the new solar panels Holy Wisdom Monastery is on track to become a fully net-zero energy campus by the end of 2024. You are invited to participate in the Spring Solar Tilt, a hands-on, inaugural community event where we gather together to celebrate solar energy, honor the changing seasons and pray for the earth. The 30-panel array can be tilted vertically or horizontally, depending on the season. Knowledgeable tour guides will lead small groups on routes of varying length through the restored prairies, savannas and woodlands of Holy Wisdom Monastery. Guides will share our story of caring for the earth and help participants deepen their relationship with this land. All are welcome. Must be able to safely navigate spring trails.     Great Wisconsin Birdathon The Great Wisconsin Birdathon is Wisconsin’s largest fundraiser for bird conservation. Each year bird enthusiasts from across the state form teams with the goal of finding as many unique bird species as possible while raising important funds for bird conservation.     Enjoy the beauty and harmony of nature as bumble bee queens and butterflies forage on a hillside of wild lupine and wild indigo in the Holy Wisdom Monastery Prairie. Join Judy Cardin, Wisconsin Bumble Bee Brigade Educator, and Amy Alstad, Director of Land Management & Environmental Education, Holy Wisdom Monastery for a beautiful spring walk and talk. Our monarch expert will show us some monarch eggs. We will use magnifiers to find interesting insects on prairie plants. Then we’ll explore the woods to find seasonal berries and learn who eats them.

Experienced tour guides will lead small groups on routes of varying length through the restored prairies, savannas and woodlands of Holy Wisdom Monastery. All are welcome. Take a look at the tiny critters that feed all the residents of Lost Lake. Observe the painted turtles and explore the trails around the lake for signs of other creatures.

Then collect seeds of some native prairie plants and learn how to plant them. Every family will take home seeds from two species.
