  • Family-friendly volunteer opportunity

    On Sunday, September 8th from 11:00 am -1:30 pm, we will host a family-friendly volunteer opportunity in conjunction with Kids on the Prairie. We will celebrate the beauties and bounties of autumn with activities that include harvesting, sorting and pressing apples in the monastery orchard and collecting seeds from Wisdom Prairie. Meet at the kiosk in the upper parking lot at 11:00 am. Please help us spread the word and/or bring a friend! Contact aalstad@holywisdommonastery.org with questions.

    Explore nature’s beauty and surprises! Kids on the Prairie is for children and their adult family members. Experienced volunteer educators and guides will facilitate a short hike to learn about nature and explore the grounds and trails. This free event is open to members of Holy Wisdom communities and the general public. October 13 – Trees in Fall Trees are more than their leaves. Walk through the savanna and the woods exploring bark, nuts, lichens and more. Look for animal homes. Make a leaf rubbing. Take photos.

This free event is open to members of Holy Wisdom communities and the general public. November 10 – Creatures in Winter Family Game Come for the end of season party. We’ll start with a short hike and then warm up with a bonfire, hot chocolate and a fun interactive game for the whole family.

    Holy Wisdom Monastery is partnering with Dane County Parks to host another Women's* Restoration Workday on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, from 1:00-3:30 pm! Why a Women's* Workday? *It can often be hard for women, folks who are non-binary/transgender, and other gender minorities to feel comfortable using chainsaws and brush cutters in a typical restoration workday environment. These workdays are meant to create space for such folks who would benefit from this event and to build community in Dane County.     Join us for an experience for everyone to explore the seasonal beauty found on the monastery grounds in winter. Experienced tour guides will share the story of Caring for the Earth and help participants deepen their relationship with this land. Meet at the kiosk in the monastery building parking lot. Tours will last 1-2 hours. We will proceed with the tour in the event of light to moderate rain but cancel for thunderstorms or other severe weather.
