Children’s Ministry

Children’s Ministry offers supportive care

Children are welcomed and valued members of our community. Sunday Assembly strives to provide a family and child-friendly culture where people of all ages are welcome to join in worship. We are also pleased to offer childcare, Children’s Prayer, and regular family events in order to meet the unique needs of children. It is our hope that by doing so, Children’s Ministry also provides parents and caregivers the opportunity to relax and participate in the contemplative aspects of worship and community.

Childcare

Childcare is available every Sunday, 9:00-10:00 am while you worship with the assembly.

Two caretakers provide care for infants and children in the Hospitality Room (in the hallway near the restrooms). When you drop your child off, please sign in and take a moment to help your child(ren) settle in and meet the caretakers. You are welcome to leave comfort items and any supplies you think caretakers may need as they attend to your child. The Gathering Area is also available for your family’s use during worship. Both the Gathering Area and the Hospitality Room have access to the sound system and toys available for your children.

Children’s Prayer

Children’s Prayer is offered during Sunday Assembly worship on the second and fourth Sundays of the month, tailored to 6-9-year-olds. Leader Sarah Wilkin Gibart and an assisting teacher share the lessons and work of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, which is a program of religious formation based in Montessori principles that are well-suited to our shared Benedictine values. This approach aims to nurture a child’s awareness and enjoyment of their innate relationship with God through contemplative work by fostering a sacred space for prayer and contemplation.

Family Gatherings

All families with children are invited to attend Family Gatherings, usually scheduled on specific Saturday afternoons/evenings during various times of the year. As a part of Sunday Assembly, the Children’s Ministry team warmly welcomes everyone to our events, no matter your background – whether it’s your family’s first time joining us, or if you’ve been a part of our community for a while.

These Family Gatherings are special Saturday afternoons where laughter is shared, friendships are formed, and hearts are lifted. Children will have an opportunity to learn and play together, led by skilled teachers in activities that focus on God’s great love. Parents and caregivers will have some free-choice time to enjoy all the Monastery has to offer. The gathering will conclude with a shared meal.
