During Advent we contemplate Jesus’ birth story in the Gospel of Matthew, allowing its particular character and unique features to comfort troubled souls and to magnify our hope.
This is an opportunity to deepen your observance of the Advent season, to find a quiet and somber refuge from the hype and hoopla accompanying the rush to Christmas.
“The celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect, and who look forward to something greater to come.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
This Advent series is four sessions, offered in-person and online via Zoom on the four Mondays of Advent. Each session will focus on a particular element of Matthew’s birth narrative: genealogies and origins, dreams, epiphanies, and the less told story of the death of the innocents.
Session 1 – Wisdom – Nov. 28
Session 2: Clarity – Dec. 5
Session 3: Signs – Dec. 12
Session 4: Consolation – Dec. 19
