Outing to Nachusa Grasslands

Join the Friends of Wisdom Prairie on this unique outing to the Nachusa Grasslands in Franklin Grove, Illinois. Learn about this 3,800 acre grassland featuring a large remnant prairie, woodlands and wetlands—one of the most biologically diverse grasslands in Illinois. In 2014 the Nature Conservancy reintroduced bison to this successful prairie. We will visit the prairie, the bison and the visitor center. Bus transportation and box lunch will be provided. Snowshoe Under the Moon Tour

Join us for a tour of Holy Wisdom Monastery land on snowshoes, under the moon.  Sylvia Marek and Greg Armstrong will lead this winter evening tour and we will be on the look out for things natural in the winter.  No registration is necessary, just come. Bring your own snowshoes or borrow a pair from the monastery on a first come, first served basis. Contact Greg Armstrong if you'd like to reserve snowshoes. Fall Color Tour

Come and enjoy the beauty of the prairies, savannas and woodlands in the autumn.  We might even see some birds and bees and other critters that live at Holy Wisdom Monastery.  The prairie plants will be putting a lot of energy into food storage in their root system so that they can survive the winter and spring up again next year.  The trees will shed their leaves to reduce water loss in the winter when the ground is frozen.  Please join us to appreciate the spirit of the land in the autumn.
