SUMMARY:Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness can be a powerful tool to identify your physical\, mental and emotional habits and needs. Becoming more familiar with your own mind and its patterns can help you relate more directly to whatever is happening in your life – including difficulty and pain – and discover greater balance and ease. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was created in 1979 and has been widely taught and scientifically studied around the world; research has shown positive improvements in physical and psychological symptoms. \nGood news: you don’t need to “clear your mind.” You don’t need special equipment. This class will focus on practice; there will be time for instruction\, reflection\, and dialogue – but at its heart mindfulness is experiential. A variety of practices will be introduced\, including sitting\, walking\, and gently moving\, and participants will be invited to practice at home between classes (with guided instructions included.) Some of the themes include patience\, trust\, letting-be\, and stress reactivity and response. \nNo experience is necessary\, this class welcomes beginners (and skeptics)\, as well as anyone with experience with mindfulness or contemplative practice. Come as you are – even thoughts\, emotions and problems can be avenues for discovering more wisdom and compassion. \nIf you are unsure\, you are welcome to attend the free virtual info and orientation session via Zoom Tues.\, Sep. 29\, 6:00-7:30 pm\, to learn more about the program and decide if you would like to register. Who doesn’t deal with stress on a daily basis and who wouldn’t benefit from learning strategies to help make life more peaceful. Each person has a personal story and life experiences that are challenging to deal with throughout their life. Knowing and practicing the strategies associated with mindfulness training can help manage everything from the smallest stressors to the great ones that shake one’s foundation.”

SUMMARY:Of Quiet Awe Art Exhibit Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of the new art exhibit\, Of Quiet Awe\, on November 20\, 2026. The exhibit features the work of photographer Jennifer Peters and painter Karen Fitzsimmons as they explore both the fragility and strength of nature through their respective mediums. Their collaboration explores the delicate balance between reality and imagination as each artist interprets the light\, shadow and motion found in everyday moments in nature. The intricate textures and expressions that define woodlands and water are captured with sensitivity and invite the viewer to accompany them on a visual journey toward tranquility and introspective calm. \nSchedule\n\n6:00 pm – Reception begins. Light refreshments will be available and the artists are available to chat with attendees\n6:30 pm – The artists\, Karen Fitzsimmons and Jennifer Peters will talk about their work and collaboration in this exhibit and welcome questions\n8:00 pm – Reception ends\n\nThe exhibit will be installed on November 18\, 2026. It will be taken down on February 17\, 2027. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday\, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (excluding holidays) and Sunday 10:00 – 11:00 am. \nAbout the Artists – Jennifer Peters & Karen Fitzsimmons\n Karen Fitzsimmons began painting as a child in her grandmother’s dining room. Her formal painting lessons began in third grade\, and mentors encouraged her throughout school. Karen earned a degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. She has worked as an art teacher\, done production work for potters\, worked within the craft industry and owned an art supply store. Throughout the years\, Karen has remained a dedicated painter and has exhibited in galleries and outdoor art shows. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nJennifer Peters is an international award- winning artist who has exhibited throughout Wisconsin\, Minnesota and in Europe. Jennifer is an impressionist photographer who strives to engage the viewer by depicting her deep love of nature in an expressive manner. Her images explore the nuances of natural forms by allowing the camera lens to capture intricacies and details that the naked eye cannot see. By depicting the delicate fragments found in nature\, Jennifer creates abstract forms of art which encourages others to connect in a personal and emotional way. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n  \nThis event is free to attend. Registration is not necessary for this event\, but we ask that interested participants please register by November 19th so we may plan accordingly. \n \n
