SUMMARY:Advent: To Seek and to Save the Lost (in-person)
DESCRIPTION:The Advent season returns us to the incarnation of the Christ-spirit and its power to restore us in hope and renew us in purpose. This series takes its starting point from the Gospel of Luke where Jesus says he has come “to seek and to save the lost.” Sometimes the language of saving doesn’t always set easily with us. Nor does the suggestion that we are somehow lost! Yet\, in setting aside time to listen with the ear of our hearts to Jesus\, to Luke\, to each other and to our own inner longings – we may find ourselves newly inspired by the Christ-spirit\, who speaks what we most need to hear and promises to preserve us in love. \n90-minute sessions will include some teaching\, small group discussion\, contemplative dialogue\, and a time for meditation. \nDates/times\nThis three-week Advent series will be offered in-person on Tuesdays from 10:00-11:30 am or virtually on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm. \nIn-person (Tuesdays\, 10:00-11:30 am)\n\nDec 3\nDec 10\nDec 17\n\nVirtually (Wednesdays\, 6:30-8:00 pm)\n\nDec. 4\nDec. 11\nDec. 18\n\nSpeaker – Pam Shellberg\n\nPam Shellberg is the director of spiritual nourishment at Holy Wisdom monastery\, a contemplative\, a student of the Christian scriptures and a spiritual director. \nCost\n$35/person \n  \nRegister\nPlease register by Dec. 2\, 2024.

DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are essential partners in our environmental stewardship. Consider joining us for Wisdom Prairie Workdays and volunteer in the restored prairies\, savannas and woodlands at Holy Wisdom Monastery to sustain your spirit and the land. Activities shift seasonally\, with common projects including invasive species removal and seed collecting. \n2024 Wisdom Prairie Workdays\nVolunteer workdays take place year-round on Wednesdays from 9:00-11:30 am. Meet at the kiosk at the top of the monastery building parking lot. Come for all or part of the workday. \nPlease register by emailing Amy Alstad\, aalstad@holywisdommonastery.org. \n________________________________________ \nWhat if none of the workdays don’t align with my schedule?\nConsider coming for a walk on the trails whenever your availability permits. We could always use your help monitoring trail conditions! \nGoals for our trail monitoring program include: \n\nEarly detection of trail issues\nCollecting data on number of trail users\nDiversifying opportunities for volunteers\n\nProtocol for trail monitoring is simple: \nWalk a section – or two or all – of the Holy Wisdom trails and report what you encounter using a simple online form. For now\, this is a purely a monitoring program. SUMMARY:Grounded Art Exhibit Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Grounded: Ten Million Four Hundred Thousand Steps Through Grief to Healing\nYou are invited to attend the opening reception of Grounded: Ten Million Four Hundred Thousand Steps Through Grief to Healing – the newest art exhibit at Holy Wisdom Monastery featuring the photographs of Carolyn S. Knorr. Light refreshments will be served.  \nAll the photos in this exhibit were taken within a ten-mile radius of her home in Middleton. Through her photos of prairies\, oak savannas and wetlands\, Carolyn explores the cycles of change\, the intricacies of balance\, and the essence of resilience. \nSchedule \n6:00 pm – Reception begins with light refreshments\n6:30 pm – Carolyn Knorr will give a brief talk about her work and answer questions\n8:00 pm – Reception ends \nArtist – Carolyn Knorr\nCarolyn grew up in Wisconsin and earned a BS in Landscape Architecture from UW-Madison in 1991. While working in that field\, Carolyn continued to explore her artistic side through photography and painting. In 2021\, Carolyn began the Master of Fine Arts program at Maine Media College in Rockport\, Maine\, and completed the program in November of 2024. The exhibit’s title\, which is also the title of her master’s thesis\, is in honor and remembrance of her sister who passed away from cancer in 2014. “It is the approximate number of steps I have walked grieving the loss of my sister.” In addition to receiving many awards\, Carolyn has had numerous solo\, juried\, group and collaborative exhibits both nationally and internationally. \nExhibit\nGrounded: Ten Million Four Hundred Thousand Steps Through Grief to Healing is on display in the gathering area of the monastery building from November 23\, 2024\, through February 10\, 2025. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday\, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (excluding holidays) and Sunday\, 10:00 – 11:00 am. \nRegister\nWe hope you are able to attend the reception and view Grounded: Ten Million Four Hundred Thousand Steps Through Grief to Healing.
