SUMMARY:Enchanting Eyes Art Exhibit Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend the opening reception of Enchanting Eyes – the newest art exhibit at Holy Wisdom Monastery featuring the work of Karen Nell McKean. Light refreshments will be served. \nKaren is an award-winning oil painter whose work varies from impressionistic landscapes to magical images that emerge from her dreams and imagination. Karen was one of the founders of the Ovens of Brittany Restaurant in Madison\, WI and 3 of the 4 paintings that she created for the restaurant will be on display. Each of those paintings are over 5 feet tall. \nSchedule \n6:00 pm – Reception begins with light refreshments\n6:45 pm – Karen Nell McKean will give a brief talk about her work and answer questions\n8:00 pm – Reception ends \nArtist\nKaren has been artistic from an early age – she said kindergarten! Her parents were very supportive and provided instructors and mentors throughout her childhood. She has been involved in art for her entire life\, received many awards\, is a member of the Wisconsin Regional Art Association and participant in the\nWisconsin Regional Artists Program. Her original work is on permanent display at Epic Systems Software\, US Health Eastpark Medical Center and Four Winds Farm in Fitchburg. \nExhibit\nEnchanting Eyes is on display in the gathering area of the monastery building from September 18 through November 20\, 2024. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday\, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (excluding holidays) and Sunday\, 10:00 – 11:00 am. \nRegister\nWe hope you are able to attend the reception and view Enchanting Eyes. Please encourage your friends and family to come\, all are welcome! \nAll proceeds will go to support the mission and work of the monastery. \nPlease plan to join us and enjoy our wonderful community on a summer evening. \nCost\nDue to overwhelming interest\, we are sold out of sandwiches from the grill. No registration is necessary for the reception\, and all are welcome\, so bring your friends. \nCommunity Art Exhibit\nJuly 16-Sep. 16\, 2024\, at Holy Wisdom Monastery\nThis exhibit celebrates the talents of our community members – people from the Friends of Wisdom Prairie\, Sunday Assembly\, Oblates\, the Center for Clergy Renewal\, Donors\, Volunteers\, Retreatants\, Board members\, the Sisters and Coworkers. We have 28 different artists featured in the Community Art Exhibit. \nThe exhibit is open to the public from July 16-Sep. 16\, 2024\, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm\, Tuesday through Friday and 10:00-11:00 am\, Sundays\, except holidays. The art gallery at Holy Wisdom is located in the gathering area in the monastery building.

DESCRIPTION:Great Wisconsin Birdathon\nThe Great Wisconsin Birdathon is Wisconsin’s largest fundraiser for bird conservation. Each year bird enthusiasts from across the state form teams with the goal of finding as many unique bird species as possible while raising important funds for bird conservation. \nHoly Wisdom Monastery is participating in this event for the fourth time this year! We hope you’ll support our team Wrens of Wisdom Prairie in our efforts to find as many bird species as possible on our property on May 11th\, 2024. \nThere are several ways to participate: \nJoin us for a birding tour or ‘sit’\nWe are offering four walking tours. Group size will be limited to 10 participants. Tour options include 6:30am\, 8:00am\, 10:00am and noon. Birders of all ages and experience levels are welcome\, and the 10:00am tour will be specifically geared towards families. This year\, we are also offering a birding ‘sit\, at 7:30am in which we’ll make ourselves comfy on a bench or platform overlooking Lost Lake and observe activity from that spot\, with minimal walking involved. \nCome birding on your own\nWe invite you to come explore the monastery property Saturday\, May 11th on your own\, and keep track of the birds you see and hear. In 2016 he began the Earth & Soul initiative and teaches regularly in the United States and Canada as well as leading international pilgrimage weeks on Iona in the Western Isles of Scotland. \nHis PhD is from the University of Edinburgh and he has authored over 15 books\, including his latest award-winning publication\, Sacred Earth Sacred Soul\, which was the 2022 Gold Winner of the Nautilus Book Award for Spirituality and Religious Thought of the West. DESCRIPTION:Experience the seasonal beauty of Wisdom Prairie by coming out to explore the spring landscape. Knowledgeable tour guides will lead small groups on routes of varying length through the restored prairies\, savannas and woodlands of Holy Wisdom Monastery. Guides will share our story of caring for the earth and help participants deepen their relationship with this land. All are welcome. Must be able to safely navigate spring trails. Please meet at the front doors of the monastery at 2:15 pm on the date of the tour. If the event is canceled due to inclement weather\, we will email you by the morning of the tour.\n\n  \nEvent leader\n\n\n  \nDr. Amy Alstad is the Director of Land Management and Environmental Education at Holy Wisdom Monastery. She has a PhD in prairie ecology from UW Madison\, almost a decade of professional experience in the field of restoration ecology\, and a deep-rooted family tradition of restoring and tending prairies that spans four generations. In addition to Dr. Amy Alstad there will be several volunteer tour guides from the Friends of Wisdom Prairie.\n\n  \nDate\nPlease note the date of this event has changed. SUMMARY:Spring Solar Tilt
DESCRIPTION:Be the first to tilt the new solar panels\nHoly Wisdom Monastery is on track to become a fully net-zero energy campus by the end of 2024. \nYou are invited to participate in the Spring Solar Tilt\, a hands-on\, inaugural community event where we gather together to celebrate solar energy\, honor the changing seasons and pray for the earth. \nThe 30-panel array can be tilted vertically or horizontally\, depending on the season. The panels are currently in their more vertical position which helps to shed snow and catch the lower winter sun more efficiently. They must be manually hand-cranked by teams of three people into their flat spring/summer orientation. Individuals and teams from the community and local businesses are invited to be part of the inaugural tilt event as participants or spectators. \nJoin us as one of 90 volunteers who will be the first to tilt Holy Wisdom’s solar panels! Or come watch and join us in prayer for climate change. Register below to let us know you’ll be coming. \nWe will begin in the Monastery Assembly Room at 1:15 pm before going outside to begin the Tilt. In case of heavy rain or storms\, the event will be moved to Monday\, April 22nd.
