DESCRIPTION:Join us Oct. 22 for the annual Wisdom Prairie Fall Tour – one of four free\, guided seasonal prairie tours at Holy Wisdom Monastery\, one of the most peaceful places near Madison\, WI. \nWhether you’re an experienced nature enthusiast looking to discover a new trail with a beautiful view of Lake Mendota and the Wisconsin State Capitol\, seeking to deepen your relationship with this land or wanting to add more grounding\, outdoor activities to your mental wellness routine\, there will be something for you on this unique tour! \nEnvironmental education on each guided nature walk will be tailored to the trails you visit and what you encounter along the way. \nFrequent tour topics include: \n\nNative prairie plants and pollinators\nButterflies\, birds and wildlife habitats\nOak savanna and wetland ecology\nWisconsin seasonal changes\nEnvironmental stewardship and local history\nMindfulness and connection with the natural world\n\nWe hope you will join us for this restorative outdoor experience and that our local bird watchers and hikers in attendance will find their new favorite spot at Holy Wisdom Monastery! In addition\, we have many other opportunities to engage with our land including environmental events\, volunteering\, nature brochures\, trail maps\, and more. \nWhat do I need to know about accessibility for this event? \nThe tour will cover 1-1.5 miles on walking trails at a leisurely pace. Various tour lengths will be offered. Elevation and trail conditions may vary depending on recent weather. Must be able to walk one mile on mowed hiking trails. Please dress for the weather and consider bringing a walking stick if helpful. \nDirections \nMeet at the kiosk in the monastery building parking lot (take the right fork in the driveway). Tours will take place in small groups. We will proceed with the tour in the event of light to moderate rain or snow but will cancel for thunderstorms or other severe weather. \nThank you! \nThis tour is hosted for free by knowledgeable tour guides from the Holy Wisdom Monastery staff and our Friends of Wisdom Prairie volunteers. \n

Whether you identify as a writer or simply enjoy exploring your inner voice\, this group offers you a gentle rhythm of reflective writing (with optional prompts)\, sharing in community\, and contemplative practices like guided meditation and mindful walking outdoors\, weather permitting. \nCome as you are. No experience needed — just a willingness to pause\, listen\, and write. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an evening celebrating the impact and contributions of the Friends of Wisdom Prairie (FWP). We will gather for dinner\, look back at some of our favorite moments caring for the prairie in 2026\, and learn from John Bates\, whose keynote presentation is titled “The Spirit of Place: An Education of the Heart.” John teaches that our goal in life should be to fall in love with the entire world and to treat it as holy. We hope you can join us for a night of learning and celebration. \nSchedule\n\n5:00 pm – Drinks and mingling\n6:00 pm – Dinner\n6:45 pm – FWP Annual Meeting\n7:00 pm – Presentation\n8:00 pm – Q&A and wrap-up\n\nSpeaker – John Bates\n \nJohn Bates is the author of 11 books and a contributor to eight others\, all of which focus on the natural history of the Upper Midwest’s Northwoods. He’s worked as a naturalist in Wisconsin’s Northwoods for 36 years\, leading an array of trips and giving talks all designed to help people further understand the remarkable diversity and beauty of nature\, and our place within it. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Wisconsin Nature Conservancy\, River Alliance of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Humanities Council\, and he currently serves on the Board of the Northwoods Land Trust and the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame.
