Maybe we will hear a Sandhill Crane?

SUMMARY:Nature Photography for Kids
DESCRIPTION:Nature Photography For Kids Ages 6-12\nChildren ages 6-12 and their adults are invited to join Sandy Weber\, professional photographer\, to use photography to discover the beauty of nature and surprising interactions all around us. Participants will learn beginner photography skills such as framing\, light and shadow with a digital camera. Each child will print one of their photos. The program runs from 10:30 am-12:00 pm. We will start indoors with a short introduction\, then go outdoors to explore the land through the camera lens. \nSchedule\n\n10:30 am – Gather in the Boardroom for orientation to nature photography\n10:45 am – Go outside to take photos\n11:25 am – Meet in the Boardroom to print photos\, mount them\, decorate frames and write captions\n11:55 am – Group sharing and closing\n\nCost & Registration\nPlease register by May 25\, 2026. This event is free for attendees\, but good will donations to Holy Wisdom and the Friends of Wisdom Prairie are always encouraged and appreciated. \nRegistration is limited to 10 children ages 6 to 12 and their adults. We cannot accommodate walk-ins or small children at this event. \n \n

In addition\, we have many other opportunities to engage with our land including environmental events\, volunteering\, nature brochures\, trail maps\, and more. \nWhat do I need to know about accessibility for this event? \nThe tour will cover 1-1.5 miles on walking trails at a leisurely pace. Various tour lengths will be offered. Elevation and trail conditions may vary depending on recent weather. Must be able to walk one mile on mowed hiking trails. Please dress for the weather and consider bringing a walking stick if helpful. \nDirections \nMeet at the kiosk in the monastery building parking lot (take the right fork in the driveway). Tours will take place in small groups. SUMMARY:Medicinal Plant Practicum
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on workshop explores the ecology of native medicinal plants\, when and how to harvest them and the best ways to process and utilize them. We will focus on native plants frequently used in herbal medicine\, such as elderberry\, nettle and echinacea. Emma Kloes will teach how to identify plants and forage\, while showcasing foundational processing techniques so you can begin making your own syrups\, tinctures\, infused oils and salves at home. Participants can go home with a small jar of elderberry syrup if they choose. \nNote: Emma will be focusing on wild plants and techniques that are commonly utilized and studied. Emma is not a medical provider\, and this workshop is intended for educational purposes only. She has spent more than six years foraging\, farming vegetables and perennial crops and learning how to process and cook with these foods.
