SUMMARY:Nature Photography for Kids
DESCRIPTION:Nature Photography For Kids Ages 6-12\nChildren ages 6-12 and their adults are invited to join Sandy Weber\, professional photographer\, to use photography to discover the beauty of nature and surprising interactions all around us. Participants will learn beginner photography skills such as framing\, light and shadow with a digital camera. Each child will print one of their photos. The program runs from 10:30 am-12:00 pm. We will start indoors with a short introduction\, then go outdoors to explore the land through the camera lens. \nSchedule\n\n10:30 am – Gather in the Boardroom for orientation to nature photography\n10:45 am – Go outside to take photos\n11:25 am – Meet in the Boardroom to print photos\, mount them\, decorate frames and write captions\n11:55 am – Group sharing and closing\n\nCost & Registration\nPlease register by May 25\, 2026. This event is free for attendees\, but good will donations to Holy Wisdom and the Friends of Wisdom Prairie are always encouraged and appreciated. \nRegistration is limited to 10 children ages 6 to 12 and their adults. We cannot accommodate walk-ins or small children at this event. \n \n

SUMMARY:Sacred Thresholds
DESCRIPTION:Sacred Thresholds is a contemplative prayer gathering. \nWe are living through a unique chapter in American history when our most cherished values seem threatened\, indeed\, our whole way of life. Each of us\, in our own way\, is asking\, What can I do?\, and the answers\, so far\, seem woefully inadequate to the challenge. It is in that same spirit of humility that we are offering Sacred Thresholds as our answer to that question. Woefully inadequate\, yes\, small\, but genuine\, offered in a communal spirit\, coming together to make a circle\, to pray\, in old ways and in new ways\, to hold each other’s hearts and help one another to stay open. That is what Sacred Thresholds is all about. It’s a work in progress. SUMMARY:Shinrin-Yoku: Walks for the Weary
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a relaxing walk on the prairie at Holy Wisdom Monastery.\nIt will be a slow-paced quiet walk guided by Valerie Vervoort\, a certified Shinrin-yoku guide. The intent of this 90-minute walk is renewal through using our senses of sight\, hearing\, touch and taste. Invitations planned by your guide are easy and subject to each person’s comfort level. Sharing and tea will be part of the experience. \nParticipants will need to dress appropriately for weather conditions and be able to walk a mile and a half on trails that are sometimes uneven and include gentle slopes. Walking sticks are encouraged. Walk starts and ends at the kiosk in the monastery building parking lot. \nProceeds from these walks go to support programs at Holy Wisdom Monastery. \n2026 Dates/Times\n\nJun. 6 – 10:00-11:30 am\nAug. 1 – 10:00-11:30 am\nOct. 3 – 10:00-11:30 am\n\nLeader – Valerie Vervoort\nValerie Vervoort grew up exploring the woods and Mississippi River on her family farm in Northern Minnesota. She earned a master’s degree in education and taught in daycares for many years where she was known for gardening and encouraging kids to explore the outdoors. After retirement she volunteered as the ‘Garden Grandma’ at Fox Prairie Elementary School’s gardens. In 2020\, she became an Oblate at Holy Wisdom Monastery\, volunteered for prairie workdays and as a trail monitor. In 2024 her interest in the land as a healer lead to getting certified as a Forest Therapy Guide in May of that year. She has since lead Forest Therapy walks for Oblates\, Sunday Assembly members and a visiting college choir. \n  \nCost\n$37/person (no lunch) \n$56/person (with lunch\, May 29 registration deadline) \nRegister\nPlease register by Jun. 5\, 2026. This offering is limited to 15 people and registration will close when full. There is no refund if you need to cancel your registration.
